Moms, we get it – life can be stressful and chaotic, and all of that chaos can lead to a bad headache. Head tension can be relentless, and it can feel like there’s no escape as your head pounds away.
There IS hope! Head tension can be avoided, or at least lessened, by identifying the triggers that cause them. Common triggers include hormonal changes, hunger, dehydration, lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, sensory stimuli, stress, weather changes, and even unusually strong smells.
However, if you’re already experiencing head tension, there are some natural solutions you can try from the comfort of your own home. Take a break, relax, and give yourself some TLC!
3 Ways to Relieve Head Tension with Essential Oils
Take a break and try out some of my go-to essential oils and you’ll be back on your feet in no time.
Massage with Essential Oils
If you’re starting to feel the pulsating pain coming along, apply essential oils directly to your temples!
All I do is apply a little of this oil to the pressure points along the head.
Put a few drops in your hands, rub it in circular motions along these points, and massage. Give this a try, and you won't regret it!
If you're a mom looking to get rid of tension while finding a way to relax, I highly recommend visiting a masseuse or a chiropractor. Lay out all the details to help your provider work out the muscles in your upper shoulders and neck, relieving the tension in your head.

Reduce Head Tensions with Aromatherapy
Essential oils are a great way to naturally treat the tension that builds up due to stressors in your life. You can simply inhale the oils or use a diffuser to start calming those stressors.
Using essential oils aromatically is an easy, natural way to relieve the tension in your head and neck and get to the root cause of your stress.
I began using two essential oils, Rosemary and Wild Orange, to help me relax and reduce stress and tension.
Rosemary essential oil is known to have a very clean, herbaceous scent and can help reduce tension in the body. Wild Orange, on the other hand, is known for reducing feelings of stress and for lifting mood.
I also love massaging Basil oil into my lower back and neck to help with head tension.

Choose Essential Oils that are Safe to Take Internally
I have mentioned how essential oils help ease my head tensions topically and aromatically. Do you know there's a third way?
Lavender is great for relieving stress and tension and has amazing chemical properties that relax the body. I recommend taking veggie caps with two drops of Lavender and drinking them with water.
It only takes 10-15 minutes, and you’ll feel the relaxation spread throughout your body.
Alternatively, you can take doTERRA’s Copaiba softgels in addition to the Lavender veggie caps. One softgel has two drops of Copaiba, making it super easy and convenient. Copaiba has powerful antioxidants that help boost immunity when taken internally.
Take it from me– moms know best! If you’re feeling a headache coming on, don’t wait until it’s too late to take action. It might be your body telling you to slow down, so don’t feel guilty about relaxing and taking a break. Drink plenty of water or enjoy herbal tea, and ask for a massage!
I hope these essential oils will help to reduce your head tension. Remember, it's important to practice self-care and take a break whenever you need it. You can count on me if you need more #momhacks, just drop a message here or connect with me on Facebook/Instagram.
