If you have yet to give a thought about essential oils, maybe it's about time that you do!

Essential oils are extracted from various parts of plants (can be from leaves, stems, flowers, and roots) that are highly concentrated and contain properties that can support our health and wellness.

They have been in use for centuries by sages and ancient doctors to enhance physical and emotional well-being -- in aromatherapy, massage, cleaning, skincare, and even food!

Why Add Essential Oils to Your Water?

Let me share with you how essential oils can level up your water intake while showering you with their potential benefits for the body.

We don't like stocks going bad, right?

Well for one, essential oils have a long shelf life, unlike other perishable items out there.

Because they are concentrated, essential oils have potent and captivating fragrances with unique benefits.

And even just a single drop can go a long way.

That’s why in the long run, they cost mere pennies versus other alternatives like store-bought flavored water enhancers in the market. Plus it’s all-natural and health-friendly!

Did you know that essential oils have the power to support body cleansing and immunity?

There are a bunch of essential oils that are safe for internal use, and each has benefits to support a healthy, natural lifestyle.

In this article, let’s talk about the best ways you can enjoy essential oils in water while keeping yourself properly healthy and hydrated. I’ll share my favorite water recipes at the end too!

Safely Using Essential Oils in Water

Before we dive into my list of the best essential oils to mix with water, let me share some safety tips first. Of course, safety is our top priority!

Choose only pure and high-quality oils.

First, keep in mind that many essential oils are on sale in the market. But not all are 100% pure. So be careful and choose essential oils with no additives, fillers, or synthetic components.

doTERRA essential oils are certified pure, with each bottle certified CPTG (Certified Pure Tested Grade). This means all of the oils undergo stringent testing to meet specific purity and potency standards, to make sure that the oils we use are pure and of utmost quality.

Dilute, dilute, dilute!

Because essential oils are powerful, dilution is your secret weapon for safe and enjoyable oil experiences. Doing this prevents potential irritation or sensitive reactions, especially if you’re applying them to your skin.

If you're new to essential oils, start with a basic dilution ratio of 1% to 3%. That means 1 drop of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil for a 1% dilution or 3 drops per teaspoon for a 3% dilution.

Carrier oils can be fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, olive oil, argan oil, sunflower oil, or rosehip seed oil.

For me, fractionated coconut oil works best. When choosing a carrier oil, it is best to consider your skin type, aroma, and quality and availability in your area.

We don't want allergies to develop, so make sure you're choosing organic products too!

Dispersing essential oils with water

Essential oils can be used aromatically with a diffuser. Just putting a few drops of essential oils into a diffuser with water does the trick. Add more drops if you want a stronger scent, but remember to not put more than 20 drops to avoid irritating your nose.

As for taking it internally, remember that NOT all essential oils can be ingested. Make sure you read the labels carefully to be safe!

Also, it is highly recommended that you choose glass or stainless-steel containers. These materials are non-reactive and won't leach harmful substances into your blends. We don’t like ingesting synthetic materials, right?

If you’re wondering how to drink essential oils, here’s my advice: Begin by putting 1 drop of your preferred essential oil into four fluid ounces of water. Make sure that you use a glass or stainless-steel container! This can be a bit tricky, so I decided to make things easier for you.

I have gathered healthy and safe recipes that you can start trying out.

Best Essential Oils To Drink In Water

Now, let’s go to my top 4 best essential oils that you can mix with water as a habit. These oils are not just great flavors, but they also add vitality and health support to the body.

Citrus Fruit Essential Oils

Citrus fruits are great immunity boosters. They are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that can aid in flushing out toxins in our bodies.

Add a drop or two of Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Tangerine, and Wild Orange in your water daily, and you can get additional support with a blast of Vitamin C for immunity, healthier skin, and even managed weight!

The bonus part? It enhances the flavor of water, making it more enjoyable and encouraging increased water intake.

Peppermint

Peppermint is known for its digestive benefits, helping to alleviate indigestion and soothe an upset stomach. It also has a refreshing scent and cooling sensation which can promote mental clarity, alertness, and focus.

With its cooling sensation, a glass of water infused with peppermint can calm down a hot afternoon, and best for an after-run or gym session peppermint water drink!

In summer, my family loves adding a few drops of peppermint into a pitcher of water with freshly sliced fruits. It helps clear airways and is a fabulous support not just in digestion but also in respiration. I love peppermint water!

Cinnamon Bark

Who doesn’t love cinnamon? It’s a staple not just during the holidays but all year long as well.

Did you know that Cinnamon Bark is rich in antioxidants, which may help combat oxidative stress in the body? With its anti-inflammatory properties, cinnamon may contribute to one’s overall metabolic wellness and health.

Its warm and comforting notes can add a cozy feel to your water, making it a comforting drink, while taking care of your metabolism too!

MetaPWR

Last but definitely not the least, MetaPWR Blend! MetaPWR is a metabolic blend designed to help you “live your most powerful life.”

It contains a ratio of CPTG® Grapefruit, Lemon, Peppermint, Ginger, and Cinnamon Bark essential oils, which may target and reduce adipose fat cells when ingested. (though more research is needed on this claim, BTW.)

But here’s the confirmed good news: when added to your water, you may get fantastic support to have increased energy and vitality, metabolic health, and weight management

Simply take four drops of MetaPWR Blend in eight fluid ounces of water and enjoy an uplifted, metabolically healthy day. I love how it’s helped me curb those cravings, especially for sweets!
