Organize in Marie Kondo Way: Easy Closet Clean-Up Tips for Moms

Easy Closet Clean-Up Tips for Moms

As a mom, keeping your home organized can sometimes feel like an uphill battle. One area that often gets neglected but deserves some attention is the closet.

After your washing machine and dryer have done their part, you now have to do the work – fold the clothes and organize them into the closet and wardrobe!

Then again, how’s your closet doing?

I’m guessing your closet is overflowing with clothes, shoes, and accessories at the moment. Or just simply disorganized, so it needs some tidying up?

It’s a challenge, right?

Want to organize your family’s closet, the Marie Kondo way? Here are a few closet-cleaning tips to help you get started!

Simple Closet Cleaning Tips for Moms

Here are some simple closet clean-up tips to help you reclaim control over your wardrobe space!

Tip #1: Set Aside Time

Schedule a specific time to tackle the closet clean-up when you won't be interrupted. It could be a weekend morning or a quiet afternoon when the kids are occupied elsewhere.

Having dedicated time ensures you can focus solely on the task at hand.

Tip #2: Declutter First

Start by taking everything out of the closet. Sort through each item and decide whether to keep, donate, or discard.

Ask yourself if you've worn or used each item in the past year.

If not, it might be time to let it go and make space for the things you truly love and use.

You might not have thought about it, but decluttering is great for your mind and home!

Tip #3: Organize by Category and Create Zones

Arrange clothes, shoes, and accessories by category to make it easier to find items. Use storage bins, baskets, or hanging organizers to group similar items together.

For example, keep all tops together, pants together, and so on.

Then, divide the closet into zones based on function or frequency of use.

Designate separate areas for everyday wear, special occasions or seasonal items, and accessories like belts, scarves, and handbags.

This organization and zone system makes it easier to see what you have, know where they’re found, and help prevent clutter from accumulating.

Tip #4: Maximize Space

Make use of all available space in the closet, including shelves, rods, and the floor.

Invest in space-saving organizers like shoe racks, hanging shelves, or closet dividers to maximize vertical space and keep items neatly stored and accessible.
