Discover the Perfect Essential Oil to Use for Your Skin

Essential Oils to Use for Dry Skin

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is my favorite for many reasons, mainly because of its calming aroma. Not only does it smell great, but it also has many health benefits for your skin.

It can be used topically to keep your skin and scalp looking clean and healthy. This oil can help fight infections, reduce redness, and soothe minor skin irritations and bites.

Lavender essential oil is also a great natural hydrator, repairing dry skin with no greasy after-feels! No wonder it’s the top 1 on the list of essential oils for the skin.

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood essential oil's chemical constituent, santalol, makes it a beautifying skin treatment. It is great for promoting healthy-looking, smooth complexion.

If you’re dealing with dry skin, try steaming your face with Sandalwood oil to make it feel soft and healthy.

Fill a large bowl with steaming water and add one to two drops of the oil to your face. Place your face over water carefully so as not to get burned. That steam will leave your skin feeling rejuvenated.

Roman Chamomile Essential Oil

Roman Chamomile has a lovely aroma, making it a popular ingredient in many face creams, hair dyes, and shampoos. That's not all—you can also apply it topically as a powerful soothing agent for dry skin.

Even better, the scent of Roman Chamomile oil will stay with you for several hours after application.

So, if you're looking for an all-natural solution for your dry skin, simply add a few drops of diluted Roman Chamomile essential oil to your favorite moisturizer.

Essential Oils to Use for Oily Skin

Frankincense Essential Oil

As one of the oldest and most revered skin care remedies, Frankincense essential oil is still popular today for its many skin benefits. When applied topically, this oil can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, soothe irritation, and hydrate oily skin.

To make the most of its benefits, try adding a few drops to your favorite moisturizer. It will not only help rejuvenate oily skin, but it will also give your moisturizer a beautiful scent.

Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium essential oil has been used for centuries to promote clear and healthy skin. With its natural antiseptic and astringent properties, this oil can help reduce the appearance of skin imperfections and balance oily skin.

To get the most out of this oil, apply one to two drops of Geranium oil to your skin after each shower. It will help smooth and nourish oily skin, giving it a healthy and glowing look.

With regular use, you can enjoy a more even-toned complexion and beautiful, supple skin.

Essential Oils to Use for Acne-prone Skin

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea Tree essential oil is well known for its ability to purify the skin and help maintain a healthy-looking complexion.

Including Tea Tree oil in your daily skincare routine can help you achieve clean, glowing skin.

Consider adding one or two drops of Tea Tree oil to your facial cleanser for added cleansing properties—or directly onto spots (such as acne) where it's needed most.

One to two drops of Tea Tree oil can be used to soothe occasional skin irritations. Apply directly onto the affected area, diluting with Fractionated Coconut Oil if necessary.

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot essential oil has a lovely scent and is widely used in the skincare industry for its cleansing properties.

When you are stressed or feeling run-down, start your evening by applying Bergamot essential oil to your skin while showering to enjoy its calming aroma.

If you use Bergamot topically, wait at least 12 hours before exposing the area to sunlight or UV rays or use precautions in the sun.

Bonus Essential Oils for the Skin

Yarrow|Pom Essential Oil blend

Yarrow|Pom is a unique blend of Yarrow essential oil and cold-pressed pomegranate seed oil, which offers powerful skin benefits. Yarrow’s skin-soothing and emollient qualities make it ideal for use in massage oils, facial cleaners, and other skincare products.

To take advantage of this blend's revitalizing and skin-protecting benefits, apply two drops to your face, chest, neck—and hands!

As a bonus tip: this potent antioxidant can also be used as an effective hair treatment by massaging it into the scalp.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Helichrysum essential oil is renowned for its ability to revitalize the skin. It is my absolute fave and is called Owie Oil in my house. Known as ‘The Beauty Queen’ of oils, Helichrysum improves skin tone and texture by reducing signs of aging such as wrinkles, lines, and blemishes.

The oil derived from the Helichrysum plant has properties that can aid in skin cell regeneration, giving you a glowing complexion. So whether you apply it directly to your face or add it to one of your favorite facial cleansers—it's up to you!

Copaiba Essential Oil

Copaiba is another versatile essential oil that can be added to your skincare routine. It has a light scent and gentle properties, which is great for everyday use. It also contains beta-caryophyllene, which has been studied as an alternative pain reliever.

Apply to your skin with a carrier oil or facial moisturizer to help keep your skin clean, clear, and blemish-free.

Rose Essential Oil

Rose oil, with its rich, floral scent and moisturizing properties, makes an excellent addition to any skincare regimen. It has astringent properties, which means it helps to draw moisture from the skin and reduce certain types of imperfections.

Combine one to two drops of Rose essential oil with your favorite facial moisturizer and apply to the face as needed.

You can also apply it directly onto acne blemishes in order to boost healing time. I also love using the Rose and Helichrysum touch rollers on scars.

One of the best things about essential oils is that they are natural, and by following the proper safety precautions, you can add them to your skincare routine without complication.
When using essential oils, it’s important to always perform a skin patch test before use so you can be aware of any potential reactions you may have. Additionally, you should ensure that you only purchase essential oils from brands known for their quality and purity.

For these reasons, I turn to doTERRA to source my essential oils. If you're interested in learning more about why doTERRA is the right choice, you can find out more here!
